About Me

  • I am a Cambridge based entrepreneur, running a learning software business, Ososim, improves business skills through the innovative use of technology and simulations (www.ososim.com).
  • I also teach at leading business schools and work with global companies to help them manage change and be prepared for the impact of key global trends.
  • I have been married for 14 years and have three children, Max, Tabby and Charlie. My wife, Helena, is an education and media consultant and is Chair of Governors at our youngest son’s infant school.
  • I was born in Northamptonshire but spent much of my childhood in south-east London and Kent.   I was the first member of my family to go to university (Cambridge), where I was joined by my brother (the former Labour employment minister, Baron Knight of Weymouth).
  • After gaining a finance qualification from London Business School, I graduated in 1991 with an MBA from Europe’s leading business school, INSEAD.
  • I worked initially as a banker and then as a management consultant, acquiring broad international experience and knowledge of many business sectors, including media, telecommunications, banking and transportation.
  • I lived for almost three years in Asia and witnessed first-hand the rapid and sustained development of the region’s economies. I have travelled extensively in China, India, Japan, Korea and almost all the ASEAN countries. I have also lived, or had lengthy work assignments, in Belgium, Canada, France, Hungary, Poland, Sweden, Turkey and the US.
  •  From 2002 to 2005 I was President of the INSEAD Alumni Association. I led a team of alumni volunteers (plus paid staff) who significantly increased membership, participation and revenues of the Association. We expanded our activities in the three areas I personally feel most passionate about: Entrepreneurship; Social Responsibility and support for the Voluntary Sector.
  •  I have been actively involved in charities and the voluntary sector. I was National Vice Patron of the charity, Missing People and have also been actively involved with the Prince’s Trust, first as a business adviser and later through building a partnership with INSEAD alumni.
  • I am fresh to the political world, beyond active involvement in my local association, but I am very familiar with the mechanics of Westminster, through family and friends in both Houses of Parliament.
  • I am deeply involved in my local party and community and became Vice Chairman of the constituency Conservative Party earlier this year.
